JOB SUMMARY
Matahari seeks an energetic, self-directed, reliable, and creative Community Organizer to grow and develop our multilingual base of working-class immigrant women of color, especially domestic workers, and to engage them in statewide coalition-building and campaigns.
ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY
Founded in 2002, Matahari is a grassroots organization led by and for working-class immigrant women and femmes who have survived racial discrimination, wage theft, domestic or sexual violence and harassment, labor trafficking, incarceration and mass deportation. Our mission is to identify and transform the conditions that lead to gender-based violence and exploitation through base building, leadership development, direct action, and advocacy.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Base Building & Programming
Grow Matahari’s base through regular outreach including door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, and one-on-one meetings
Host weekly member meetings including new member orientations, know your rights training, and member-led committee meetings as needed (ex. First Aid/CPR training)
Coordinate with statewide efforts and recruit membership participation in local and statewide direct action campaign cycles (ex. May Day, Domestic Worker Day, etc)
Enter and maintain organizing-related information into our member database and support the organization by maintaining good data systems
Leadership & Organizational Development
Design agendas to elevate members’ political analysis and co-facilitate monthly meetings
Manage and support membership, provide skill trainings, and create opportunities for members to take on leadership roles in campaigns, actions and other activities
Support Matahari's internal health and sustainability by taking a leadership role in one of our staff teams: member governance, operations, or fundraising
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Demonstrated experience in grassroots organizing, including recruiting members through door-to-door canvassing, public events, and one-on-one meetings (3-5 years preferred)
Strong in-person or virtual facilitation skills or willingness to learn and be coached
Familiarity with the issues facing immigrant communities, communities of color and/or domestic workers or restaurant industry workers
Multilingual abilities required (Spanish, Portuguese, or Haitian Creole)
Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
Commitment to regular presence in the North Shore and Metro Boston (~3 times per week)
Comfort working in a collaborative, co-directorship staff model with a small team
Effective communication skills and proficient technology skills, particularly with database management, Microsoft Word or Google Drive apps, and Zoom. Familiarity with digital organizing tools preferred.

A $76,500 annual base salary (everyone is paid the same);
